American Economy and American Love

September 29, 2008

As the economy is failing, I am scared but optimistic. I am thinking, what if all this, oh my God, brings America back to humanity?

Personally, I don’t know anything about finances. But I just came from a class with BILL BARTMANN who is, for the record, one of the four people on planet Earth I look up to. Figuratively speaking, he had me at hello. And his evaluation of what’s coming in case of a failed bailout is very, very pessimistic, at least it was two days ago.

But then I am thinking, what’s there I haven’t seen? I grew up in Russia, for crying out loud – I’ve seen monetary reforms, defaults, and even absofreakinglutely no chocolate candy at any grocery store on New Year’s freaking Eve….so I am not frightened all that much.

What makes me hopeful though is that, as difficult of a time as it was, Great Depression in America gave birth to art that still remains more powerful and emotionally charged than many of the things that came out of the credit-bloated consumer happy society we (used to) know.

We’ll see.

But I am hopeful. If worst comes to worst, there is still love, and always will be. May be we’ll have to find it…

On a side note, if gloom actually occurs (which I hope it doesn’t) and all things culture go through the roof out of human desperation, I count on a comfortable little spot in a Big Encyclopedia somewhere for bringing up the point.

You think I am joking!

Now, since you might expect a word or two about the music, here it comes.

No, I am not sitting on my butt. I am doing more than I have been in years. I wake up every morning and I have something to live for. I am studying operatic singing (don’t expect me to produce it next week though) and preparing to record an album with another person off that list of mine. I am designing a new live show. There is a lot of things happening behind the scenes, flashy words will come when the work is done. :)

Love,
L
